MCA-Honduras Social Compensation Program Provides Benefits for Families Living on the Margins of Highway CA-5

In order to promote social coexistence and economic growth for the country’s benefit, MCA-Honduras Compensation Program is aimed at providing institutional strengthening to 173 resettled families on issues regarding community organization and business management.

The Millennium Challenge Account Builds School for Children of Families Resettled in “Colonia Milenio Puma “
The Resettlement Policy promoted by the Millennium Challenge Corporation and successfully implemented in Honduras represents a contribution to the country´s development, providing families with access to basic needs regarding health, employment and education, and with organizational strengthening for their community life.

Seven Trade and Business centers are being built for Ocotepeque farmers
Construction of seven Local Trade and Business Centers has begun to provide the project’s organized groups with facilities to store, process and trade their vegetable production, all in an effort to strengthen the commercial activity of seven communities assisted by the Project of Incentive for Horticulture Production, currently funded by the Millennium Challenge Account-Honduras and implemented by the Honduras Brotherhood Association (Asociación Hermandad de Honduras).

Learns about community experiences in projects implemented in western Honduras
With the purpose of assessing the progress of the Project “Competitiveness for Men and Women Horticulture Producers”, Martín Ochoa, Executive Director of the Millennium Account-Honduras, and Juan Miguel Perez, a member of MCA-Honduras technical team traveled for a field inspection to the Community of Copantillo, municipality of San Andrés in the department of Lempira,. During the trip they were accompanied by Margarita García Director of PILARH Association, the project implementing institution.

The Millennium Challenge Account-Honduras Generating economic growth for the country´s Indigenous Populations
Through the impact achieved in projects participating in the Agricultural Public Goods Grant Facility, which are currently benefiting 3,000 families of horticulture producers in Communities of Lenca and Afro-descendant origin in 4 of the country’s 18 departments.

Promoting ideas for development
15 horticulture women farmers of the community of Jurtao in the Lempira Department contribute with business ideas to generate economic development for their families and community.

The Millennium Account-Honduras, working with efficiency
As of September 2009, paving works in the stretch Comayagua-Ajuterique-La Paz present a physical progress of 92.8%, indicating that it will be completed before the date specified in the contract. The new road will benefit annually 230 thousand persons and 275 thousand vehicle owners that use this route to connect with Highway CA-5 North, the main communication access artery in the country.
