Tegucigalpa, Honduras.- As part of its Transportation Project, the Millennium Challenge Account-Honduras is ready to invest 923 million lempiras for the widening and improvement of the section comprising Río del Hombre-Beginning of the Comayagua Valle in Highway CA-5 North. On September 25th, Martin Ochoa, General Director of MCA-Honduras, signed the Construction Works Contract with Ricardo Núñez, representative of the consortium M&S-Santa Fe, in the presence of Gabriel Farfán Cuervo, also representing the awarded bidder. The rehabilitation works to be made in asphalt cement will include widening the road from two to four lanes, all along this section, and upgrading the vertical and horizontal alignments of the current route. The widening of the two additional lanes has been projected in both sides of the road, making use of the present stretch destined for the right of way. The drainage structures will also be improved and rehabilitated, including the enlargement of bridges, and a two-lane stretch of 3.3 kms will be built in order to increase levels of service and safety for the drivers, in a stretch that is currently being used for more than 7 thousand vehicles daily, 30% of which are mostly trucks and trailers. Works are scheduled to initiate by Mid-October, with duration of 24 months. The execution of this important work along 33.3 km will be carried out as a co-financing alliance between the Millennium Challenge Account-Honduras and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration. |
