| • What is MCA - Honduras? |
MCA-Honduras is an entity attached to the Ministry of the Presidency, created in the name of the Government of the Republic of Honduras with responsibility for the administration and supervision of the implementation of the Program and the execution of the projects and activities in the Millennium Challenge Account Compact signed between the Government of the United States through the Millennium Challenge Corporation and the Government of the Republic of Honduras June 13, 2005.

The objective of the MCA Program is to promote increased economic growth in Honduras supporting the goal of the Poverty Reduction Strategy (PRS) of the Country, for which two main projects will be undertaken:
- To increase the productivity and commercial abilities of producers who operate small and medium sized farms of their employees.
- To reduce transportation costs between the production centers and the national, regional and world-wide markets.
| • How is MCA - Honduras organized? |
MCA - Honduras is composed of two parts:
- Board
- Program Management Unit (PMU) under the direction of an Executive Director, who is Secretary to the Board as well
The Board is the highest authority of MCA-Honduras and is the entity responsible for ensuring compliance and supervising the implementation of the Compact and Supplementary Agreements, as well as to ensure adequate and correct execution of the Program, the projects and activities of the Compact.
The Program Management Unit (PMU) supports the Board and is responsible for all administrative and technical issues related to the suitable and correct execution and implementation of the Program, the projects and activities contained in theCompact.
| • How are the employees of the PMU selected? |
The employees of the MCA Honduras PMU will be named by the Executive Director after being selected by open and competitive process, and each appointment will be subject to the approval of the Board and MCC.
| • What is the source of funding for the execution of the Program? |
The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) provided a grant to the Government of Honduras, subject to the terms and conditions of the Compact, of an amount not to exceed a total of two hundred fifteen million dollars of the United States ($215,000,000) over the term of the Compact to allow the Government to implement the Program and to achieve its Objectives.

In March of 2002 President Bush proposed “a new compact for global development" linking greater contributions from developed nations to greater responsibility from developing nations. He proposed a concrete mechanism to implement this agreement - Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) - in which development assistance would be provided those nations that invested in their people and promoted the economic freedom. The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) was established the January 23, 2004 to administer the MCA.
