Millennium Challenge Account will improve more than 600 kilometers of rural roads

More than 100 communities and 250,000 persons will benefit directly from the enhancement of the rural road sections

Tegucigalpa.- As part of the “Farms to Markets Roads Activity” included in the Rural Development Project, the Millennium Challenge Account of Honduras will co-finance the improvement of more than 600 kilometers of rural roads,

The counterpart for this activity comprises 33 of the country´s municipalities that prioritized in due form, the road sections presenting highest economical productivity.

In order to formally establish the co-financing commitment, which was defined according to the municipalities poverty index, MCA-Honduras held several events to subscribe the agreements with the selected municipalities,

These municipal co-financing agreements entrust MCA-Honduras to proceed with the negotiations to sign contract for the works, once the municipalities deposit the agreed funds of counterpart.  The improvement of these rural road sections represents an investment for more than 185 million lempiras.

About the Agreement, the Mayor of Tela, David Zaccaro, expressed the following:  “This represents a responsibility, a commitment, our empowerment over these project.  It shows the town people, as well as the beneficiary communities; how we have to participate in the development altogether… we have to fight for our achievements,  the paternal attitude shown by different governments and international organisms is over.  We all have to sweat a great deal in order to grow, to advance, to stop being poor and to become a first world country, to close the gap between those who have and those who don’t ..”

The “Farms to Market Roads Activity”  makes part of the grant agreement of the Millennium Challenge Corporation of the United States of America, currently managed by the Millennium Challenge Account  of  Honduras (MCA).
