Helping Farmers in Western Honduras
MCA-Honduras in association with Honduras Brotherhood will assist 72 imaginative families

San Marcos de Ocotepeque.- MCA-Honduras signed a grant agreement with Asociación Hermandad de Honduras (Honduras Brotherhood Association) to support the project called Economía Solidaria (United Economy), which will benefit 72 small horticultural producers (male and female) belonging to the Lenca ethnic group and  living in the communities of Belén Gualcho and San Francisco del Valle in the Ocotepeque Department

The project, supported by MCA-Honduras through the Agricultural Public Goods Grant Facility, is aimed to enhance the living conditions of 50 families settled in the buffer zone of Celaque National Park, and 22 families located at Guisayote Biological Reserve; the project will improve the population´s access to water and will strengthen their productive capabilities.

The Economía Solidaria Project will generate  opportunities for an eco-friendly environmental development.

Since the project is located within protected areas, in order to guarantee a correct   management of the natural resources, it will include a strong environmental component, mainly based on a Mitigation Plan for the irrigation system activities and a compensation program for environmental services.
