Santa Bárbara.- The process to develop the baseline survey for the Community Irrigation Project (Riego Comunitario in Spanish), currently implemented by ADRA with MCA-Honduras funding, has been recently completed in 24 communities and eight municipalities of the southern part of the Santa Barbara Department. By installing 15 drip irrigation systems, the project will help irrigate 136 hectares cultivated with vegetables, representing a direct benefit for 270 families of small and medium agricultural producers. It is also estimated that by creating temporary jobs, the project will indirectly benefit 5,520 persons residing in the area of influence. Community leaders and agricultural producers enthusiastically participated in the field survey and provided direct information about their farms, families, environment and markets. The baseline has provided ADRA Honduras with valuable information that will be employed to monitor compliance with the objectives and goals of the project, in order to emphasize MCA-Honduras vision regarding poverty reduction through economic growth. |
