| | San Nicolás, Santa Bárbara.- In order to secure a sustainable production of water as well as the successful operation of the community irrigation system, the Water Management Council for the communities of Santa Cruz and La Cuchilla has recently started actions for the delimitation and protection of “Los Copantes” water source. The activities to establish the perimeter counted with the participation of about 32 members of the Community Irrigation Project, which is being financed by MCA-Honduras and implemented by ADRA Honduras to increase the income of horticultural producers of the Santa Barbara department. Organized in groups, the farmers are cleaning the area around the water source in order to protect it and prepare the installation of the irrigation system to take place during the up coming months. The members of the Community Irrigation Project have obtained full support from Municipal Environmental Unit (UMA) of San Nicolas, securing the successful accomplishment of the objectives and goals of the irrigation project.
As an essential component in community development, women from the villages of Santa Cruz and La Cuchilla have also been incorporated as part of the team work. | |
