La Guacimada, Goascoran, Valle December 5, 2008.- In the community of Santa Cruz a topographic survey is currently underway in the areas where the reservoir and the complementary works will be built to provide ultra low pressure irrigation water for parcels own by 24 farmers. This system will irrigate 10 hectares of farming land for crops such as watermelon, green pepper, zucchini, calabash, cucumber, among others.
Preliminary information obtained by GPS has defined the technical feasibility based on the data for the length of the distribution network, and the difference in height from the reservoir to the most distant parcel as well as the height for collection. Classification of the field data will define the project’s final design and the quality of the reservoir.
Therefore, producers of Santa Cruz II are grateful and motivated since this project will guarantee their first and second harvest, since permanent availability to water will permit to increase and diversify their crops.
This project is financed by the Millennium Challenge Account and executed by CHF International, providing the opportunity for the partner communities to improve their quality of life through economic growth, making good use of water resources and soil by applying new techniques to improve the crop´s yields.
