Millennium Challenge Account – Honduras will construct modern overpasses
Tegucigalpa.- The improvement and expansion of the CA-5 North Highway is being done using international engineering standards and state-of-the-art technology.
Two overpasses will be built in the Tegucigalpa – Rio del Hombre section, using new construction techniques, such as anchored walls, block walls, and mechanically stabilized walls, which have the capacity to withstand the soil’s lateral pressure.
These overpasses will be known as the “Millennium Overpasses”, and their construction is expected to begin in March 2012. They will be located in Tegucigalpa’s northern exit, and one will connect the Peripheral Highway and the Armed Forces Boulevard, which will relieve rush hour traffic in these areas.
The other overpass will be the Durazno Overpass, which will connect the CA-5 Highway with the road to Olancho, which will resolve traffic coming from the north and heading to Olancho, without having to enter Tegucigalpa.
