A model to create competitiveness



Tegucigalpa.- The innovative resettlement model used by the Millennium Challenge Account – Honduras has allowed the improvement of commercialization of artisan products produced by 132 families who were favored with business premises throughout the 107 kilometers of the CA-5 North Highway, part of the country’s central corridor, which offers natural, urban, and artisan beauties in the communities of Zambrano, Comayagua, Siguatepeque, and Taulabé.

Millennium business centers have become an attractive road stop for national and international tourists, where they can admire and buy beautiful crafts, fruit preserves, food products, sweets, hammocks, hats, and pottery, done by Honduran artisans who have been benefited by the Millennium Challenge Account – Honduras.

Millennium business centers have become an attractive road stop for national and international tourists.

A Social Compensation Program was executed along with the Resettlement Policy, with the purpose of restoring the economic conditions of the affected families, by giving them community and business assistance, which resulted in the creation of ten administrative boards for business establishments.

In exchange for what they possessed before, the Millennium Challenge Account – Honduras gave a house and business premises to 132 families; the premises have ample physical areas that also serve as rest stops for travelers, facilitating their produce commercialization.

These families also received training in sales, management of small businesses, sales registry, and customer service.

The improvement and expansion of the CA-5 North highway, implemented by the Projects Management Unit, has given many benefits; the Resettlement Policy is one of them, which seeks to create new communities for a more competitive Honduras.
